It all began in 1935 with Gordon J. Maier’s vision of serving clients with excellence and dedication. A notable achievement in his career was earning one of the first CPA licenses issued in Wisconsin. His values laid the foundation for what would grow from a small one-office practice into a respected full-service accounting firm with offices in Racine, Brookfield, and Kenosha and a reach that now extends across Wisconsin and beyond.

Behind our longevity is a team of incredible people - leaders and professionals who’ve helped build GJM’s reputation for trust, accuracy, and dedication.

We’re proud to honor longtime leaders like:

·        John Schliesmann, who led our Racine office for over 40 years, built trusted relationships and set a lasting standard for professionalism and service.

·        George Gissell, who served as Administrative Partner for 42 years, strengthening our operations and fostering a culture of efficiency and growth.

·        Joseph Nixa, who dedicated 41 years to helping families and businesses navigate tax, estate planning, and small business challenges, offering trusted guidance through every stage of change and growth.

Each one played a key role in shaping who we are today, and their legacies continue to inspire our next generation of leadership.

Then, Now, and What’s Next

Over the years, we’ve expanded strategically, not just to grow, but to serve our communities better. Through our growth into Brookfield and Kenosha, we’ve extended our reach while continuing to deliver the personal attention clients expect from us.

A new chapter began in 2017 when Julie Craig became Managing Partner. Under her leadership, the firm has experienced a period of intentional growth, modernization, and innovation.

That same year, we expanded through the acquisitions of Bittner’s Accounting & Tax in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Balistreri, Jezo, & Lascari, LLP in Brookfield, Wisconsin, strengthening our community connections and broadening the services we offer, while still delivering the dependable service clients in each community had grown to trust.

In 2019, we introduced a collaborative leadership team to encourage shared decision-making and guide strategic expansion. That same year, we embraced flexibility by hiring our first remote team member in Texas, beginning a shift toward a more dynamic and connected workforce. Today, our virtual team includes professionals in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Michigan, supporting our offices and clients seamlessly from any location.

In 2020, we launched the GJM app, a user-friendly tool that makes staying connected with us simple and secure. Clients can upload documents, access frequently asked questions, and contact our team with just a few taps.

Our commitment to self-care and work-life balance is reflected in how our team is structured. Many of our professionals are cross-trained in multiple service areas, such as tax, audit, payroll, and bookkeeping, allowing for seamless coverage when team members take well-deserved time away.

Growth continued in 2021 when the team from Fogarty & Associates, LLC joined our Racine office. In 2024, we expanded again by welcoming Hafner, Lasky & Loewen, SC to our Brookfield office. Both firms have brought a wealth of experience and a genuine commitment to the kind of client care that reflects our small-business roots and our focus on long-term loyalty.

Julie’s leadership has brought positive transformation while keeping our purpose clear: to serve our clients with honesty, excellence, and meaningful relationships built on trust.

While the tools have evolved over the years, what remains constant is our commitment to upholding integrity, accountability, and a reputation for trusted service, delivered by a diverse, passionate team dedicated to attesting, reporting, and advising with excellence.
